There is only one study programme at the Faculty of Health Sciences taught in English: the Bachelor’s degree programme Physiotherapy, founded in 2020. Currently 20 students from the USA, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Canada, China, Iran, Czech Republic, and Italy are enrolled in the programme, with the highest number of students (9) from Iran. The standard period of study is 4 years, so we expect the first graduates in the next academic year. Physiotherapy is one of six Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in English at Palacký University.

We asked a basic question of Dr Petra Gaul Aláčová, the guarantor of the study programme: “Why choose Physiotherapy at Palacký University Olomouc (UP)?”

“Why Physio? Physiotherapy allows you to learn, heal, and help the human body to its highest possible level of functioning. In close cooperation with University Hospital Olomouc, students get practical clinical training right from their second year, preparing them for work in a wide range of clinical facilities and outpatient settings – including sports, geriatric, and handicapped physio.

“Why UP? Study in a prestigious programme while enjoying the stunning Baroque beauty of a historic Moravian city with endless cultural and sports opportunities, or escape into the nearby mountains.”

Mohammadamin from Iran had a special childhood wish – provide rehabilitation to the disabled. He chose Palacký University because of its high rankings, accredited degree, its location in Central Europe, and also the cost of education and living expenses, which are lower than in other European countries. He also mentioned that other European universities do not have Physiotherapy classes for international students.

Jan from the Czech Republic decided to study Physiotherapy because of his previous experience with massage techniques which he found interesting, so he wanted to go deeper into this field and get more knowledge. Also studying in English is beneficial for him, because it offers him more work possibilities, including working abroad. Jan says: “Studying this programme in English is difficult and takes a lot of time, but it is worth it. I am glad to study in our faculty. What interests me most is hands-on practice in the hospital, where I can apply the knowledge that I get from the lessons.”
